#90 Big Apple NYC Badass Adventure Day 1

Y'all.

I am loving being in NYC.

For a city that is so ginormous, I feel like I blend in and can find my way around sort of. And even when I get lost, i doesn't matter because eventually I find my way back to where I was going.

I get why Emily and Wiki love living here.

So. Much. To. Tell. You. About.

Today, I'm just going to talk about Badass NYC Adventure Day Number 1.

Emily and I have the same badass style: Mainstream? Nah. Too boring. Quirky? Yup. Sounds good.

We had a planning meeting over sushi, Tiramisu Lattes and English chocolate bars.

We decided to start with a walk down Park Avenue to check out what we came across.

First stop: The Museum of Ginseng.

Did you know that it takes Ginseng 5 years to grow enough to be harvested?

Me neither.

Don't really care, tho.

Moving on.

Second Stop: The Museum of Math

When I tell you that Emily and I are exactly the same person, I mean it. We look the same. We have the same quirky tendencies.

But one thing we don't agree on is Math.

When she found out there is a Math Musuem, you woulda thunk it was Christmas morning.

I, however, shivered with disgust.

So we went.

It was glorious! A crazy mix of science museum, children's museum, and art class.

My goal was to learn exactly one thing.

Here's what I learned: To demonstrate Pythagorean's Theory, you can solve three puzzles -- the pieces to solve two smaller puzzles can be then put together to solve one big one. Thus

Emily and I each had two separate sets of puzzles. She quickly solved her big red one, and I struggled so hard.

I.

Just.

Couldn't.

Solve.

It.

It sucked so bad, until I handed it over to Emily in frustration --- and she couldn't solve it either.

I felt vindicated.

On another note, they had square-wheeled tricycles. Took that bad boy for a spin.

We played with velocity speed tests (Emily won), a lever game when you had to try to get to "15" before your opponent (Emily won) and many more math games (all of which Emily won.)

Good thing she's an engineer.

Third Stop: The New York Public LIbrary

From there, we headed over to The New York Public Library.

OMG...I was so excited to be here.

I saw the original Winnie the Poohs and friends.

Look at Piglet!!!! I mean...let's get real. Why was Pooh the star of the show. Piglet's where it's at.

I saw a handwritten copy of the Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson where there was a part where he campaigned for the stoppage of African slavery. Tho the informational plaque did explain that they were flumoxed, as I was, about the hypocracy of someone who owned slaves campaigning for the stoppage of slavery, but I guess since he's super dead and we can't ask him directly, we'll never know.

I saw the handwritten farewell speech George Washington wrote with the help of James Madison and Alexander Hamilton. That boy had mad cursive skills. I think he missed his calling as a primary school teacher. Too bad. He could have done something with his life.

Fourth Stop: A Random French Fry Hut

We jumped on the subway and headed over to meet Wiki for french fries for dinner. NYC is yummy.

Fifth Spot: Comedy Show

"Next Slide" is a Powerpoint Comedy Show. Each comedian was tasked with using a PowerPoint as part of their act. Some of the comedians were writers on The Colbert Show. Others were book authors. And their only two tasks for this comedy show were to use a Powerpoint and to stay on time.

There were about 8 different comedians and the topics included:

  • How to Speak Midwest: (Yeah, No. And You Betcha!)

  • The Grief Process

  • Why You Should Buy a Bidet

  • No-Show Socks: Are they gross?

  • How I Went Viral By Using a Dating App at the Olympics

  • Summer Camp: Why It Should Be Banned

Sixth Spot: My hotel and ZZZZZZZZs

I headed back to the hotel and CRASHED. One day down...and can't wait to do more.

Oh. By the way.

Addendum: Tacos

We got tacos.

Probably the best tacos of my life.

I like this city.
