Emily has lived all over NYC in the past two years... Brooklyn, Manhattan, Harlem and now Long Island City.
She gets to live in these super fun and funky places with great people. Their current apartment is in a residential part of town close to a bazillion restaurants. So perfect.
Here is her place and her exact room.
I would say their decorating aesthetic is "Cat Chic".
Bean is the house cat and lives the best life any cat as ever lived.
Their living room has a bookcase organized by color and it makes me laugh too see all my stupid pottery incorporated into their space.
And her own bedroom is so her! All the embroidery is what she has created herself.
Right down the street from her place is the cutest little coffee shop that for some reason has Christmas decorations up. Christmas in July?
And literally across the street is The Museum of Moving Image. And it features a permanent exhibit showcasing Jim Henson. Soooooo yeaaahhhhh. We had to go.
We started in the Henson exhibit.
How amazing it was to see the actual puppets that I grew up with and loved so much.
They had a station where you could make your own Muppet show recording.
There was a "Make your own Muppet" station. Doesn't mine look Groveresque?
Lots of Henson vibes to check out. He was truly a genius, and it was amazing seeing how he worked his magic.
We watched some oldie Kermet clips and some 1970s classic Muppet Show bits.
All that would have made going to the museum worthwhile.
But way... There's more!!
From real life set models of Jaime Gumb's basement from Silence of the Lambs
to the mask worn by Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire...
To the Bride of Frankenstein's wig...
To many more things that I'm sure you can recognize. So much to see!
But the best part was going into the creative studio. We got to do stop-action animation...
And create sound effects...
And we got to do virtual reality painting...
And even more super cool stuff that I didn't get a snap of.
So glad we stopped by.
Finishing up our time together was a late sushi lunch with a great view of her neighborhood and the NY skyline.
What a lucky mom I am to have a kid as freaking amazing, cool, andcreative as Emily is. She is truly living her life richly and deeply and she has inspired me to keep looking for ways to be as engaged in my own community and world as possible. Emily, I couldn't been more proud of you. I love you dearly and can't wait to see you in September.
